Game Recap/Notes: Game #50. Pistons 95 - Celtics 102. 26 - 23.

Pistons started off with really crappy shooting to go along with some crappy effort. And while some regression to the mean on the shooting helped them make it a little bit interesting in the second half, the 20 point halftime deficit was too much to overcome. HOWEVA, it should be said: One thing you cannot take away from this team is that they never give up. It is a cliche, but with this team you really never can count this team out.

Reggie Jackson: Somewhat surprisingly to me after watching the game. Reggie actually had a really solid game. 17 points on just 11 equivalents, 7 assists with 3 turnovers. It is not the volume scoring we generally want from him (and I would take a little more volume for a little less efficiency) but still. That's a really solid game. His defense also was, once again, really solid. he could have done a little bit more for sure, but it is definitely not his fault that the Pistons lost this game. Also as a side note, remember when everyone was making fun of Reggie Jackson because he could not shoot at all? Dude is shooting 36% from 3 and has hovered right around that spot all season. He is not some fantastic shooter by any stretch (he especially does not have a very quick release from deep) but I hope people like Zach Lowe feel stupid. (Btw, nothing but love for Zach Lowe, he is probably my favorite NBA writer/person. It was just perplexing to me why he was so low on the Pistons coming into the season.)

'

KCP: 4 points on 6 shots. Only played 16 minutes because he got hurt by slipping on a freaking wet spot on the floor. I'm not going to get super pissed about that because it is unfair, there was probably no way to know that the spot was wet. But man that freaking sucks. God's speed KCP. (I have not seen anything with regards to the seriousness of his injury at this point. Best guesses I have sen is that he will miss at least a game or 2 but I don't know for sure.)

'

Greater Morris: Didn't end up being as miserable a game as it looked like it might be early on, but still was a struggle tonight for Marcus. 15 points on 20 equivalents is really poor, and while he did help his offensive cause with 4 assists, it is not enough to fully repair that damage. But still, the dude played his butt off even when the Pistons were down by 20, and a couple of his shots were bad shots where he was trying to force stuff when the Pistons were down by a lot. While obviously it is never good to force stuff so much, if there is one time I don't mind it, it is when your team is getting blown out and not playing all that hard. Still though, rough night for Morris. Also, holy hell he needs to figure out how to shoot 3s again.

'

Ersan Ilyasova: 16 points on 13 equivalents, his defense was not much of a liability. Combine those and you've got a real solid game for Ersan. For a stretch in the second half he single handedly was the Pistons come back bid, he scored like 11 points in a very short span. Could not really ask for anything more out of Ersan that what you got tonight. Solid game for him.

'

ANDRE-MOTHER-FUCKING-DRUMMOND: Am I overreacting? Yeah probably. But my man shot 4/6 from the line tonight. I don't care what else happens in the game, if Andre shoots over 50% he gets the honors. His 16 points on 14 equivalents was pretty good to go along with his 13 boards as well. Although outside of the free throws it was a pretty run of the mill game for Andre. It is clear that Sullinger gives some real issues to Andre with that vivacious ass of his but that's just how it goes sometimes. Still though, 4/6 from the line!!!! (It's a sad commentary on the state of Andre's free throw shooting that I would get this excited about that.)

'

Stanley Johnson: Played 30 minutes tonight and damn near the entire second half due to KCP's injury. And he did fine. 11 points on 13 shots (3/10 from 3, that is like a JR Smith stat line or something) with 9 boards. His defense was generally good, although he got killed on a screen to let Marcus Smart put the seal on the game with a 3. But we all better hope he can keep up his recent play for at least a little bit longer because if KCP does indeed miss any time then Johnson will be starting

'

Brandon Jennings: 5 points on 9 equivalents, 3 assists to 0 turnovers. Nothing spectacular, but a fine night for Jennings. It was a little disappointing that he missed a couple pretty good looks while on the floor with Reggie but that's under the bridge really. He did his thing with the bench mob, pushing the ball, making smart passes, and generally making everyone better.

'

Anthony Tolliver: 1/4 for 3 points. He hit 1 shot, ergo he was not all that useful. That's just how Tolly is. But there was nothing he did that was especially bad though so nothing to really complain about.

'

Aron Baynes: Probably the worst outing in a while for Baynes. Managed 4 points on 6 equivalents but 2 of them were on free throws he didn't really ear (4/6 from the line) and 5 boards. His defense was not terribly effective tonight either, as the spacing and passing that the Celtics have on their front line really can expose his biggest weakness of lack of foot speed. All that said though it was not really a bad game for him, it is more so a comment on how well he has been playing lately.

'

Darrun Hilliard: Played 12 minutes in the second half in relief of the injured KCP, and once again, he looked just fine out on the floor. And I loved that SVG drew up a shot for him in crunch time from the out of bounds play. In the end, 4 points on 3 shots, and both his buckets were pretty nice ones that he got inside the paint. His defense is not all that good, but it is not any sort of disaster. Whether KCP is out for any time or not, I would like to see him get some consistent minutes because he actually looks ok.

'

General: Pistons just got that bad combination of not being there night shooting the ball in many ways, while also having not be there night as far as just playing very well. For whatever reason they just didn't have it tonight. But once again, even though it does not really matter that much, because a loss is a loss. (just like last game I said that a win is a win regardless of how it comes) But it is really a sign of a hard working and well coached team that they never give up on a game and fight to the end, which is something that as a fan, I really appreciate. When watching this pistons team you really feel like they care.

'

What do you think? Think they will bounce back tomorrow against the Knicks? Let me know! We all get smarter!

'

Programming note: Sorry about the lack of scouting report, I started playing Crusader Kings 2 again. That game is literally cocaine for me, sorry. Also, one I finish this I am going to go right into a post on how the Pistons will probably react to the KCP injury, as such I am not going to have the scouting report for the Knicks up tonight. Instead that will be going up tomorrow afternoon/evening not all that long before the game starts actually, but it will be up.
