Game Recap/Notes: Game #49. Pistons 105 - Nets 100. 26-23.

Well that was not exactly ideal, but then again, a win is a win. And they really needed it as well. The Nets actually played better than usual but still was not a great game for the Pistons. But once again a win is a win.

Box score.

Reggie Jackson: So I had totally forgotten about his whole dehydration thing. So my apologies to Reggie, because that absolutely would explain his not so good play the past couple of games, he is a tough dude who will play through a lot but if you are limited you are limited. HOWEVA, tonight he fought through it, and came up big in crunch time. 19 points on 20 shots, 6 assists with 1 turnover. That is a really solid game, but at the end of the game he just turned it on. Scoring 9 (I think) points and scored or assisted on 13 (I think, might be a little off on either of those) straight points. That is why Reggie is there. He just turned it on and made plays and got buckets. Also, his defense was actually pretty solid yet again, he has responded well to SVG's call to better defense. Really good game for Reggie.

'

KCP: 16 points on 18 shots so not a spectacular offensive night (also no assists) but certailny passable. He did not have a good player on to lock down to have a big defensive impact but his defense was still its usual excellence even if it could not have a huge impact. I don't know for sure, his numbers are fine but it just didn't feel like he did a whole lot in this game. A big part of that is certainly that I'm pretty sure that the Nets SG rotation consists of the Barclays center janitorial staff so one of us could have guarded them. So I don't know for sure, it was a fine game though for sure.

'

Greater Morris: 12 points on 13 equivalents, 3 assists, played really good defense on Joe Johnson. (which is admittedly not some great feat at this point but whatever.) His playmaking was really big even though he did not have big numbers, there were a couple stretches where the offense ran through him and he did a really solid job. Very nice game for Morris, even if I think he should have been able to score more given the matchups he had.

'

Ersan Ilyasova: 15 points on 14 equivalents, 6 boards, and some actual surprisingly solid defense. He scored some points, and most of them were inside, and he helped keep Thad Young under control. Really just a solid night for Ersan.

'

Andre Drummond: 21 points on 16 equivalents, 18 boards. That is a very good game. He was the Pistons most important (and effective) offensive player pretty much all night, and scored from both the post, on offensive rebounds, and on dunks. (including a super awesome off the backboard oop from Jennings) The real questions with Andre tonight though, how much of Brook Lopez's big game was his fault? I don't know for sure, some of it should obviously because it is a direct matchup between them. But on the other hand, Brook Lopez is really good and Andre often played very solid defense, and managed to keep himself out of foul trouble despite the Nets best efforts to get him into foul trouble. So I'd say some of it is his fault, but he does not get too much blame for playing bad defense, mostly because I think he actually played pretty decent defense and Lopez just hit a lot of hard shots.

'

Brandon Jennings: Just 3 points on 4 shots, but 5 assists, including the already mentioned backboard oop that was amazing. Once again, Jennings has done most of his damage this year with his passing and not his scoring. His pushing of the ball in transition, threat of his scoring, and vision just make the bench mob play so much better. He is the grease that makes those wheels churn. I still want to see him play with Jackson, but until that happens, this dude is a killer backup PG.

'

Stanley Johnson: Stanley kept up his really solid play off the bench tonight with 13 points on 11 shots. And he was bombing it from deep tonight as well, going 3/6 from deep. I don't want to start getting to excited because rookie regression (or wall if you prefer) and all, but man, it is getting hard to not be getting super excited for this guy. He has played really good basketball lately, and his skill set is so varied. He could really be something special.

'

Anthony Tolliver: Scored 2 points on 3 shots. Those two points were on a really nice pump and drive which is something he continues to bring out a bit more than before, which is to say he does it at all ever. His defense was good on Thad Young. Fine game for Tolly.

'

Aron Baynes: Did not do a whole lot in his 11 minutes, but he scored 2 points, got 4 boards, and contested some shots so it is not like he played bad by any stretch. Just not quite as impactful as he often has been lately.

'

DARRUN HILLIARD: He is uppercased because I am so pleased with this. He played 5 minutes with the bench mob in the first half. This is literally what I have been asking for. Just let him spot a few minutes, and you save some other guys a bit of time (this time Morris was the beneficiary playing just 32 minutes. KCP still played 39.) He didn't really do anything in those 5 minutes, he hit a free throw. But that is not all bad, by nothing that does mean he did not do anything bad. His defense does not look like a mess (which is more than most guys with his playing time and experience can say) so yeah. Hopefully this becomes a thing. Gives others a bit of a breather, and also lets a rookie who has some promise get a little bit of game action.

'

General: Looking through the box score kind of says a good story of this game. Outside of Drummond, no one on the Pistons had a really good game, lots of guys played pretty well, but not all that good. The Nets on the other hand, had Brook Lopez and Andrea Bargnani (of all people) have really efficient nights scoring the ball, so the Nets stuck around and it came down to the wire. But this is the regular season in the NBA, they are all pros. In the end there are no style points. you've just got to win, and the Pistons won.

What do you think? How was Andre's defense? How bout that boy Stanley? Let me know! We all get smarter!
