Game Recap/Notes: Game #43. Pistons 99 - Pelicans 115. Back to Backs Suck.

Well that kind of sucked. I know that it is a back to back and those are hard, but this team freaking sucks on the second night of back to backs. (REST GUYS A LITTLE MORE PLZ STAN)

Box score.

'

Reggie Jackson: 8 points on 11 shots, 5 assists and 4 turnovers. That tells the story pretty well, just a poor night for Reggie. He had trouble getting into the paint, did not make very good reads, and could not hit a shot. His defense was also a very real part of the Pistons defense being swiss cheese in the first half. And while Jennings stepped up for a solid game (more on that later) the Pistons need Jackson to play better than this if they want to win very many games. Just a poor showing for Reggie.

'

KCP: So I guess that this is officially the hot shooting streak we have been waiting for from KCP to bring his numbers up a bit. 23 points on 18 equivalents is very solid, although he did not log a single assist. His defense was still very good, but he was tasked with guarding Tyreke Evans for most of the night, and Evans was really just too big for KCP and it showed. He was bullied several times while Evans worked his way to a 22 point, 10 assist night. But his offense has really looked good lately, the question now is, when he cools off a bit, where will he settle? I am going to assume he will not be this good for much longer because we have seen him go off for a week or so at a time and he has never sustained it. HOWEVA, if he can stay close to this the rest of the year it would be a huge victory for KCP.

What if he is just this good though? Well if he is jus this good then the Pistons might legitimately be able to sit tight in FA, other than perhaps seeing if they could find an upgrade at PF (not even as a knock on Ersan, but due to him being older, and that he has just 400,000 garunteed next year, he is the least costly to move if they found someone better. As such they should at least look.) because KCP looks like a real 3rd option.

'

Greater Morris: Tonight is a good reminder as to why I title the prediction sections of my scouting reports as "Opportunities for me to look stupid" because I predicted that Morris would have "a field day" tonight. He did not. Just 4 points on 11 shots is miserable, and while his defense was his usual very solid (and I'm getting more impressed by him defensively) he is not going to create nearly enough impact on that end to make up for an offensive night like that. From my view it seemed he mostly was just missing shots he often hits, but either way, it was a really crappy night for Marcus.

'

Ersan Ilyasova: 10 points on 12 equivalents, and he missed all of his 3 pointers. So not a very good night for Ersan, he was not horrible, and also actually played pretty solid defense on Anthony Davis all things considered in that matchup. So it was not really a bad night for Ersan, just not a very good one.

'

Andre Drummond: Was fresh after being hacked to the bench last night, and it showed. Andre scored 19 points on 19 equivalents, and pulled down 22 boards. 9(!) of which were offensive. He (just like everyone else) deserves some real blame for how piss poor the Pistons were on defense in the early going, but in the end he (along with KCP) was really a bright spot tonight for the Pistons. Very solid night for Andre. (Lol, dude had 19 and 22 and I just said it was "very solid" that is so crazy. Enjoy this dude because he is special.)

'

Brandon Jennings: 20 points on 14 equivalents, and dished out 5 assists to just 1 turnover, and also ended up closing out the game for the Pistons. Very nice game for Brandon, he attacked the paint, and also pulled out his super nasty step back jumper a few times tonight which was very good to see. HOWEVA, it will be interesting to see the progression here, because SVG is in dangerous waters, even if Reggie and Jennings are totally committed to the team and whatnot, there will be games where Jennings just plain has it when Jackson does not, and Jennings will close out the game. How that is handled will be important, because it is not worth pissing off Reggie.

'

Stanley Johnson: 6 points on 6 shots, including a super ballsy 3 (that was changed later to a 2) and also dished a couple assists. Jennings was more aggressive tonight so Stanley had less of a role with the bench mob than he often does, but he put more energy into his defense and made some really nice plays on that end. Even though there is nothing popping out in the box score, it was really a very nice and solid game from Stanley, continues to impress me in his rookie season.

'

Aron Baynes: 6 points on 6 equivalents, and 5 boards. Not much more you can ask from a guy in 12 minutes. He hit one really hard up and under bucket with Anthony Davis right on top of him as well so that was cool. Dude is just a rock solid backup center, and I'm going to reopen the hope that SVG tries to use him alongside Drummond at some point, that could obviously fail horribly, but it might be cool.

'

Anthony Tolliver: Played just 11 minutes, went 1/3 from the field for 3 points. Really did not play enough to have a significant impact either way, but I suppose he did just fine.

'

General: The Pistons just played like absolute steaming crap in the first half, and they came out with some fire for the second half, but they needed either Jackson or Morris to really catch fire in the second half and because they both kept up their struggles, the team never really go back into it. Kind of a disappointing loss, but it is ok.

What do you think? Think Andre is better than Davis? Let me know! We all get smarter!
