Game Recap/Notes: Game #41. Pistons 101 - Bulls 111. 22-19.

Started off very good, and even stayed so for a while. But then the Bulls started to pull away and KCP got kicked out of the game. And the Pistons just could not kick it into gear and come back. Also Pau Gasol could not freaking miss.

'

Box score.

'

Reggie Jackson: 19 points on 21 equivalents, 6 assists and 1 turnover. All in all nothing too spectacular from Reggie but it was also noting poor either. His defense was so so as well. I mean, I'm just trying to think of something here that stood out either way, and I'm pretty much just coming up with he was totally fine but was not all that special. So I guess that is what I will just go with. He scored pretty well, and he distributed pretty well. But he did not do enough to really pull the Pistons through in the end.

'

KCP: 14 points on 13 shots, and he played some of his usual excellent defense and running in transition. But then he really goofed up, he got his first tech in a stupid but a little bit understandable way by slamming the ball on the ground after a kind of bad call. But then he picked up another later in the game for arguing. I don't know for sure how much of a beef he had on the call, but I do know that when you already have a tech that you have to be extra careful. Simply put, if you are a player, and especially if you are a important player to the team, then you cannot get kicked out the game so stupidly. He absolutely lost his cool. Also it is somewhat ironic that KCP was the first guy to get booted from a game this year, and not Marcus Morris. But because of that he gets a big fat F for Failure in this game.

'

Greater Morris: Really nice game for Marcus, 18 points on 17 equivalents and 6 boards. And he did indeed get the majority of the time on Jimmy Butler, and did a perfectly admirable job there. His scoring was very important throughout the game and was a big part of the Pistons staying within striking distance for the game and the Bulls had no real good answer for Morris. All in all it was a really good game for Morris. HOWEVA, something needs to be said about his 3 point shot. He has been so ice cold from deep as of late that he has dipped below 30% from deep. Which is, um, not ideal. Shoot better Marcus, please.

'

Ersan Ilyasova: 19 points on 16 shots and 11 boards. He scored with his long shot and also a couple of impressive drives to the hoop. He was looking for his shot a wee bit and he made good on it. And to go with it he did not have any screw ups on defense that were too obvious. As such Ersan had a very nice game. His offense was very important tonight and he made a couple of super nice passes. Very nice day for Ersan.

'

Andre Drummond: 13 points on 14 equivalents, and 16 boards as well as 6(!) of them were offensive. Pau Gasol had some trouble with him but on the other end Pau Gasol absolutely torched the Pistons. I have defended Andre a lot because it looks pretty clear to me that SVG is telling Andre to stay close to the paint, but one way or another, they have got to do a better job on centers who can shoot. Whether it is on SVG or Andre who is deciding to just let good shooters take warm up jumpers but either way it has to change. Admittedly part of it is just that Pau is a very good shooter and offensive player, but seriously, at what point do they go out and guard guys.

'

Stanley Johnson: 8 points on 9 equivalents, 4 boards. Buuuut he had too many turnovers, and did not do anything all that useful on defense. I feel like I've said this a few times already in this recap but it was just totally acceptable performance, but he did not do anything all that good either. Outside of one super awesome pass, that was cool.

'

Brandon Jennings: Not a very good game for Brandon, just 2 points on 6 shots, and only managed 2 assists. He really just had an off game, and it affected the whole bench. It was not quite as pronounced as it has been at times this season, but the bench lost this game. All of the starters were positive today, and all of the bench guys were big fat negatives. Jennings is the guy who is relied on too carry the bench and he did not get the job done today.

'

Aron Baynes: Another really nice game for Baynes. Scored 8 points on 6 shots, oddly had no rebounds but had a few decent defensive plays. He continued to play really solid basketball. He only played 14 minutes so his effect was minimal regardless but they were very solid minutes and he was pretty easily the best bench player today.

'

Anthony Tolliver: Tolly was 0/2 from the field, and did not really do anything else all that good. When he hits his shots he is good, and when he does not then he is not useful. He was not useful today.

'

Darrun Hilliard: He played 3 minutes and he did literally nothing of significance. Played those 3 minutes to relieve Stanley due to KCP being ejected. But once again, did nothing of note.

'

General: Once again, the bench lost the Pistons this game, it was bound to happen at some point here that Jennings and the bench had a bit of a let down, but that does not make it suck less that it happened. The starters all turned in pretty solid games outside of KCP getting freaking ejected for 2 technicals. Rough game but not one I would be too worried about.

'

What do you think? Think Jennings this was a let down from the last game or just a poor game for the bench? Let me know! We all get smarter!

'

P.S. I am like part way through working on the post looking at the Warriors game more in depth. I hope I will be able to get it done tonight but if it does not then it will be up tomorrow night/afternoon before the scouting report for the Rockets.
